Dec. 15, 2008--As specified by Chapter
1 Title 3 § 7 of the United States Code, Maryland's ten
electors gathered in Annapolis to formally cast their votes for Barack
Obama and Joe Biden. The ceremony is normally held in the
Capitol, but that is undergoing repairs so the electors met in the
Miller Senate Office Building. |
John Jessamy Jr. and son John
Jessamy III, age 7, of Prince George's County had front row seats for
the ceremony. The father, who works as an architect for the DC
Housing Authority, said this was, "A day that I never would have
imagined could have happened." He said he was "proud of this
country that it has the courage to put its faith in a man of color." |
