Jan. 21, 2009--On January 8,
then President-elect Barack Obama announced
his selection of Gov. Tim Kaine (VA) to lead the DNC. The
transition took place at the Democratic
National Committee's Winter Meeting. Outgoing chairman Howard
Dean described Kaine as "the right person to build on our
accomplishments." "He is the right choice to lead the Democratic
Party into this new era," said Dean. Vergie Rollins (MI),
Gilberto Hinojosa (TX), Doris Crouse-Mays (VA) and Mame Riley (VA)
delivered nominating speeches. The
gavel passed quickly and without fanfare from Dean to Kaine.
