2008 update
Governor:  Gov. Jon Huntsman (R) was re-elected to a second term, gaining 77.6% of the vote to defeat economic and management consultant Bob Springmeyer (D) and a Libertarian. 
U.S. House:  In the 3rd CD (Central and West Utah) Rep. Chris Cannon (R) lost the primary to Jason Chaffetz (R).  Chaffetz defeated Bennion Spencer (D) by a wide margin in the general election.

2008 Overview
McCain-Palin won Utah by a solid plurality of 268,360 votes (28.17 percentage points).  McCain carried 26 counties.  In Salt Lake County, Obama edged McCain by 176,988 votes to 176,692; Obama also carried Summit and Grand Counties.  None of the major party candidates visited in the Fall.  Constitution Party candidate Chuck Baldwin achieved his highest percentage of any state at 1.26%.

Setting the Primary Date
On March 21, 2006 Gov. John Huntsman (R) signed a bill that puts Utah's presidential primary on the first Tuesday in February.  Senate Majority Leader Peter Knudson introduced the Western States Presidential Primary bill (S.B.60) in January 2006; the Senate passed the bill by a wide margin in mid-February and the House followed on March 1.

Filing: Between July 1, 2007 - October 15, 2007 (5pm) file declaration of candidacy, $500 filing fee, and provide a letter from the chair of the State Party.
