May 23, 2006--Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-TN) participated in the Alliance for Marriage's press conference in support of the Marriage Protection Amendment (MPA) in the LBJ Room at the U.S. Capitol.  To his right is Dr. Matt Daniels, founder and president of the Alliance for Marriage.  Sen. Wayne Allard (R-CO), Sen George Allen (R-TN), and Sen. David Vitter (R-LA) also spoke at the event.  (back)
Sen. Frist and Bishop Joseph Kurtz of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops listen to a speaker during the press conference.  Kurtz, Bishop of Knoxville, Tennessee, chairs the Conference's Committee on Marriage and Family.  The Conference issued a statement on marriage on September 9, 2003 which said in part, "What are called 'homosexual unions,' because they do not express ful humna complementarity and because they are inherently non-procreative, cannot be given the status of marriage."
